When I was a restaurant manager, I wouldn't have ever hired someone from a bartending school, because most don't teach the practical skills needed to succeed in today's restaurant world. For several years now, I have been looking into starting a restaurant. I had started a business plan and was beginning the steps necessary to open my own place. About a year ago, I came across the opportunity to own and operate a bartending school. After 25 years in the bar business I have a really firm grasp on what it takes to become a bartender, and thought this sounded interesting. I researched the offer and also looked into other area bartending schools to get an idea of how they operate. One night I came home and my wife asked me what I thought. I said "No way". She said "Why?" I said "They don't teach people anything they will need to know about how to become a bartender and get a real job." She said "Why don't you teach them what they do need to know?"
